CAGD 170 - Reload! Block! Shoot!
Group 10
Reload! Block! Shoot!
- Reload! Block! Shoot! is a competitive based card game where the players are cowboys in a wild west town and are trying to win dominance over the town. The players will have to fight it out in battles with old-school style weapons and if they start losing body parts over time, they will fail. So the cowboys must be wise to try to stay alive and try to assert dominance for the wild west town.
- The main target audience we have aimed for is card collecting/competitive card combat type of players. Our game has been aimed towards this type of player category due to the game's features which are implemented are very competitive based. Our group primarily wanted to attract a competitive based background from players so they may bring a competitive experience during battles.
The Revolver Card! |
- The iteration design process for this unit went pretty well for the most part and my partner and I were able to knock out the most important key factors of the design very well. We definitely wanted to choose a game that is fun but not too complicated where players can understand something easily and be able to play right away. The only main bump we had to go through was figuring out the proper card list and number count so it's fair for both players. After a few playtests we were able to find a sweet spot for the number of cards to be successful for official play. The developmental process of Reload! Block! Shoot! went seemingly well for the most part and both me and my partner were able to implement things we both agreed with and were able to implement new ideas that would work out well and improve gameplay.
- As far as task completion within the group went, it went very well with the roles my partner and I chose. Most, if not all, tasks were completed as far as full completion for the game. My partner and I were able to take all the feedback that was given to us during playtests and implement the most important ideas into the game so it will improve. The feedback that was given was very useful and the playtests were able to pinpoint areas of the game that needed improvement or simply add things that would be essential.
The Showdown Card! |
- Any issues that we encountered with the game were solved very quickly with the agreements my partner and I went through and were able to make the changes accordingly. But most importantly we were able to find the issues easily during playtests and were able to make the necessary tweaks that were needed for the game. The playtests were extremely helpful because they gave us the opportunity to give the game the proper changes to make it feel more complete and satisfying. If there were any major issues with gameplay my partner and I would map them out to have a sense of what is going wrong and try to cancel out the major flaws so the game would run smoothly. Luckily, we did not have any major issues with gameplay and were able to go more based on the feedback from playtests.
The player has been stunned card! |
- If there was something I would change with my own developmental process moving forward would definitely be to try to not be timid about changing major plans within an idea. For example, a huge idea that came up during a playtest was to add a health system for the cards. My partner and I really enjoyed the idea of adding a health system but the numbers were a little overwhelming to deal with. I feel that we should definitely push through and try to implement it anyway just so we can try and have a sense of how it will improve the game. A health system being added would've been pretty nice to add in if we took the time to review the numbers closely.
- But overall, the game came out very well put together and it gave us satisfaction for others to enjoy. We noticed the enjoyment from the players during playtests. My partner and I can both agree we have created a simple, but competitive based card game that is easy to understand.

Reload! Block! Shoot!
Body Parts |
- Reload! Block! Shoot! is a competitive based card game in which the players are cowboys trying to seek vengeance for a wild west town and players would have to fight and they would lose a body part for every major hit they take. If they lose a certain amount of body parts they will fall and lose their shot of winning over the town.
- The iteration process while developing this game was not too complicated, me and my partner wanted to think of something that is functional but not too complex for the players. We believe we have found a nice and smooth game with simple rules and details for the players. A card game is what we both agreed with and just went on with it. Something that was definitely a hump we had to get through was finding the right amount of cards for both players and have them equally balanced. Our development process went seemly well for the most part and we both agreed with our ideas we put out and test it into the game to see if they are functional. Playtests definitely helped a bunch during our game developmental process so we can pin point the holes in our game and try our best to come up with an idea to substitute.
- During out game developmental process there wasn't really any major problems and were simply easy fixes. That's where the playtests came into play so we can fix the flaws. Both me and my partner are great at our roles and tidying up the game. My role was heavily on the cards and the art work associated with them. I was also taking care of any balancing ideas that came up and tried to implement them into the game.
- A wonderful solution we found for balancing the battles was coming up with an idea for having special cards. These special cards would serve as add ons for the battles so players can save their body parts so they won't be closer to death. Or these special cards would have some sort of turn and hurt the players even more. So it's kind of like a fifty-fifty on which point you will be on during the battles. My partner and I wanted to have more of a competitive aspect and these special cards are definitely the icing on the cake and we both can agree it makes the game more beneficial for the player trying to backstab their opponent.
- Something I would change about the developmental process going forward would mostly be trying to safely playtest a game where implementing a health system would be beneficial and not too complex thinking of the numbers. My partner and I were recommended a by playtesters to add in a health system and just thinking of the proper numbers to be functional for the cards just seems like a difficult option to go. Moving forward, my partner and I must find an idea where it isn't too difficult but at the same time not too complex to develop and implement into the game for playtest.
- Overall, my partner and I are very satisfied with what we have accomplished with the game so far and can definitely improve more. All the little details and key points can majorly improve the game developmental process for the better.
