Ace's Solitaire
We all know the beloved game of solitaire. What if it came with a twist? Here is Ace's Solitaire, which is played by placing down EIGHT cards while having the first pile faced up and stacking cards by one for each pile after the first. You will have to find an ace card FROM the deck of cards to place on top of the row of piles, and then you would have to pick a card from left to right to see if you can stack a card on TOP of the ace ONLY by one! See how many cards you can stack, have fun, everybody!
While coming up with our solitaire modification, my partner and I had to first learn more about the game of solitaire and study how we can adjust the game but can still feel like solitaire. So we formed our modifications of Solitaire into a rule sheet and decided to test them out firsthand. Our original rules were placing down cards for 10 piles and whilst testing it, we ran into some troubleshoots trying to find out if we had enough cards for the game. Our original rules also seemed a little too confusing so we toned down our piles from 10 to 8 piles. We then both agreed on what special card to place on top of the piled rows to make the game feel enticing. We both also liked the idea of choosing an Ace card to be the star of the game since the Ace card can be rare to find in a standard deck of cards. We are aware that finding an ace card in the piled rows may be difficult, but that's the point of discovering what kind of cards you have in your piles to make one main stack.
Our plan is to make the game of Solitaire feel different, but not so much of a hassle setting it up for the player. We are glad the rule sheet was able to assist us in pinpointing key factors as to why the original ideas were not working and how to fix them. After playtesting our game multiple times, we found a happy spot both of us can agree on the new changes we have made while having fun playing Ace's Solitaire. We can both agree that Ace's Solitaire can be a competitive game based on random luck with a standard deck of cards. It is mainly because you never know what you may have in your piles and building up that eagerness is a key factor.
This game had no luck finding any remaining 8 or 4 cards for the second & third pile, bummer! |
Moving forward, we should definitely have a smarter start-up with our modifications as to starting off small and building upon those ideas. We noticed that starting off having 10 piles of cards at the start seemed a little absurd since we did not calculate if we were going to have enough cards from the beginning of the process. As we communicated we found a sweet spot of a pile number to have the game running smoothly without having the issue of running out of cards. So we definitely have to keep in mind of the minor changes to have the game fully functional are key.
Lucky game of Ace's Solitaire! |
Overall, we are very pleased with our game results of Ace's Solitaire and hope to have other players have fun whilst playing the game! It was definitely a fun space to work in where two minds can think of ideas instead one mind or else the game could have been placed into many different problems. So definitely having a partner test out your ideas was huge for Ace's Solitaire so we can tweak the game and make it run smoothly for the player while having fun!
